EAST END FC-  1885-86 SEASON

The Northumberland FA produced its first handbook that year & listed the clubs which were affiliated to it. East End were among them & they were listed as playing navy blue jerseys, with an orange stripe & still based at a ground in South Byker. This would be the clubs last season playing from this base, before moving to the Heaton Junction ground. The club secretary was Charles Gray of 43 Shields Road, Byker. In keeping with the growth of football in the region; like many of their local rivals, East End began to seek ‘friendly’ opposition from beyond the North East. That season would see them entertain Berwick Rangers from the borders & Scottish side Dumbarton Athletic. The club gained more silverware by winning the Northumberland Charity Shield in May. Ed Hiscock, whose goal scoring prowess was developing, was instrumental in the sides victory. The Second Team’s ‘A’ Team entry also reached the final of the Northumberland FA 2nd Team Medal Competition, but were runners up. New players to arrive that season were William Muir & Dan Lord from Heaton & a local goalkeeper called McClen. The clubs rivalry with West End grew & team captain that season was Alec H. White.
